Ganmain is a small town in the Riverina area of New South Wales, Australia. It's about 55 kilometers (34 miles) northwest of Wagga Wagga. Ganmain is part of the Coolamon Shire local government area. In 2021, about 793 people lived there.

History of Ganmain
The Name's Origin
The name "Ganmain" comes from an Aboriginal word. It is thought to mean "Crown scenes on the Moon for tribal reasons". Another idea is that it means "native decorated with scars".
Early Settlement
In 1838, a settler named James Devlin started a cattle station here. He called it Ganmain Run. The town later took its name from this station.
Post Office Changes
The first post office opened on December 10, 1888. It was called Boggy Creek Post Office. In 1894, its name changed to Derry. Later that same year, it was finally renamed Ganmain.
Historical Society
In 1973, six local families started the Ganmain Historical Society. This group helps to keep the town's history alive.

Hay Production
Ganmain is known as the "Sheaf Hay centre of Australia." It produces a lot of chaff, which is dried hay and straw. This chaff is used to feed racehorses. Many top racehorse trainers in Australia use chaff from Ganmain.
The Big Haystack
You can see a large monument in Pioneer Park. It's called the Big Haystack. This landmark shows how important hay production is to the town's history and economy.
