The Garden Temple, also called the Escrick Park Temple, is a special building in Escrick, North Yorkshire, England. It's a type of temple and also a folly – a building made mostly for decoration.
This temple is so important that it's officially protected as a Grade II listed building. This means it has a lot of historical or architectural value, and people want to make sure it stays safe for a long time.
History of the Temple
No one knows the exact year the Garden Temple was built. Experts think it was constructed sometime between the mid-1700s and 1825. That's a pretty long time ago!
What the Temple Looks Like
The temple is round and built from smooth, cut stone called ashlar. You can walk up two steps to get inside.
Around the outside, there are two flat columns called pilasters and four tall, round columns called colonnades. These columns are in the Ionic style, which means they have fancy scroll shapes at the top. The building also has a round wall.
Above the columns and wall, there's a decorative edge called a cornice, and then the roof sits on top.
