Sir William Garth Morrison (born April 8, 1943 – died May 24, 2013) was a very important leader in Scouting. He was the Scout Association's Chief Scout in the UK from 1988 to 1996. He also helped lead Scouting around the world as a member of the World Scout Committee from 1992 to 2002.

Early Life and Education
Garth Morrison went to Pangbourne College. There, he was the Chief Cadet, which is like being the main student leader or "head boy." He was also the captain of the English Schools Rugby team.
He continued his studies at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. He then went to Pembroke College, Cambridge, and finished his degree in 1966.
After college, Garth Morrison joined the Royal Navy. He worked as an engineer officer for twelve years. He left the Navy in 1973 with the rank of Lieutenant.
After his time in the Navy, he took over his family's farm. The farm was in West Fenton, Scotland. It was quite large, about 560 acres, and grew grains used for drinks like beer.
Leadership in Scouting
Garth Morrison started helping the Scout Association in 1973. He became the area commissioner for East Lothian. Later, in 1981, he was chosen as the chief commissioner for Scotland.
He attended the 15th World Scout Jamboree in Canada. The Scout Association gave him the Silver Wolf Award. This is a very special award for his great service to Scouting.
In 1987, he was a deputy leader for the UK Scouts at the 16th World Scout Jamboree in Australia. The next year, in 1988, he became the Chief Scout for the UK. He held this important role for eight years.
During his time as Chief Scout, some big changes happened. Girls were allowed to join the Scout Association's programs. Also, the rules and uniforms became more relaxed. In 2008, the World Scout Committee gave him the Bronze Wolf award. This is the highest award in world Scouting, given for amazing service.
Other Important Roles and Awards
Garth Morrison received several other important awards and roles:
- He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1994. This award was for his excellent work in Scouting.
- He became a Knight of the Order of the Thistle in 2007. This is a very high honor in Scotland.
- He was a member of the Society of High Constables and Guard of Honour at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
- He was also a trustee for the Lamp of Lothian Collegiate Trust.
- In 1984, he became a deputy lieutenant of East Lothian.
- In 2001, he was appointed as the Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian. This is the King's personal representative in that area.
