Garth Prince facts for kids
Garth Prince is the stage name for Garth Prinsonsky, a talented musician and writer from Namibia who now lives in Canada. He is famous for his 2021 album called Falling in Africa. This album was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2022. It also won a big award, the Juno Award for Children's Album of the Year, at the Juno Awards of 2022.
About Garth Prince
Early Life and Music
Garth Prince was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He grew up in Swakopmund, Namibia. When he was a child, he sang in the Mascato Youth Choir. Later, he joined a band called Afroshine. Their song "Ti Mama" was very popular in 2008.
Moving to Canada
Garth Prince met a Canadian woman while he was touring in Canada. They got married, and he moved to Edmonton, Alberta. Now, he mostly works as an entertainer for children. He also teaches kids about African music and culture.
Creative Works and Awards
In 2019, a short film called Memoirs of the Motherland was made about Garth Prince.
His award-winning album, Falling in Africa, came out at the same time as a children's picture book. The book is called Grazing Back Home. He created this book with writer Tololwa Mollel and artist Jason Blower.
In 2021, Garth Prince was also nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award. This nomination was for Best Children's Entertainer.
