Gauntlet facts for kids
A gauntlet is a special part of a glove or mitten. It's like an extra sleeve that covers your wrist and the lower part of your forearm. Gauntlets help keep you safe and warm.
You often see gauntlets on gloves for people who ride motorcycles or snowmobiles. They are also common for construction workers, forestry workers, and mountain climbers. Gauntlets protect your wrists and forearms from cold weather. They also help prevent scrapes or cuts if you have an accident.
How Gauntlets are Made
The gauntlet part of a glove or mitten is usually made from the same kind of material as the rest of the glove. This helps it to be just as protective.
For example, if you have leather motorcycle gloves with gauntlets, the gauntlets will probably be made of leather too. If you have warm, insulated nylon mittens for snowmobiling, their gauntlets will likely be made from that same insulated nylon fabric. This makes sure the gauntlet works well with the rest of the glove or mitten.
