Gausac (pronounced gaw-ZAK) is a charming village located in the Val d'Aran region of Spain. It is part of the larger Vielha e Mijaran municipality. This village is recognized as an important part of Catalonia's architectural history.

Where is Gausac Located?

Gausac sits at an elevation of 1,020 meters (about 3,346 feet) above sea level. It is found on the left side of the Garonne River. The village is also at the northwest edge of the flat area known as the Vielha plain. It rests at the base of the Varicauva mountain slopes.

A Village Growing with its Neighbor

Gausac is built along a ridge, which means it has a sloping design. This gives it a classic village feel. However, Gausac is very close to the larger town of Vielha. Over time, Vielha has grown and expanded towards Gausac. This growth has caused the two areas to connect. Now, Gausac is almost like a neighborhood of Vielha.

Population and Community

As of 2016, Gausac was home to 518 people. Even though it's becoming more connected to Vielha, it still keeps its unique village identity.

Sant Martí de Gausac Church

At the lower part of Gausac, right by the highway, you'll find the local church called Sant Martí de Gausac. This church is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture. It was built in the 15th century, making it very old and historically important. It stands out as a significant landmark in the village.
