Gavere is a town in Belgium. It is a 'municipality,' which is like a local government area. Gavere is located in the province of East Flanders.
The municipality of Gavere includes several smaller towns. These are Asper, Baaigem, Dikkelvenne, Semmerzake, and Vurste. In 2021, about 13,007 people lived in Gavere. The total area of Gavere is about 31.35 square kilometers.
Sports in Gavere
Gavere is known for a special bicycle race. This race is called the Superprestige Gavere. It is a type of bicycle racing called cyclo-cross. Cyclo-cross races happen on a mix of surfaces. Riders go on grass, mud, and even over obstacles. The Superprestige Gavere race takes place every November. It is part of a bigger series of races called the Superprestige.
Military Presence
The town of Semmerzake, which is part of Gavere, used to be important for air traffic control. The Air Traffic Control center for the Belgian Air Component was based there. This center helped guide military airplanes.
