Gavin Peter McCann (born 10 January 1978) is an English former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder in the top English football league, the Premier League. Gavin also played one game for the England national team in 2001. Today, he works as a First Team coach for Hyde United.

Gavin McCann's Football Journey
Gavin McCann started playing football as a junior for Y.M.C.A. juniors. He then joined Everton and trained at their special football academy.
Playing for Sunderland
In 1998, Gavin moved to Sunderland. He was part of the team that won the Division One title in 1999. This win helped Sunderland get promoted to the Premier League. His team earned an amazing 105 points that season!
Time at Aston Villa and Bolton
Gavin signed with Aston Villa in 2003. During his time there, he faced many injuries. He scored one goal in the 2006–07 season against Manchester City. Because he wasn't playing as much, he decided to leave Aston Villa.
In June 2007, Gavin joined Bolton Wanderers. He scored his first goal for Bolton in a UEFA Cup game in December 2007. He also scored in another UEFA Cup match and his first league goal for Bolton in April 2008. His manager, Gary Megson, praised his playing during this time.
Playing for England
Gavin McCann played one game for the England national team. This was a friendly match against Spain in 2001. The game took place at Villa Park.
Retirement from Playing
Gavin's contract with Bolton ended in June 2010. He had a knee injury, and his manager said he could earn a new contract if he recovered. However, in early 2011, his teammate Kevin Davies shared that Gavin had retired from playing football. He was unable to fully recover from his injury.

After finishing his playing career, Gavin McCann started coaching.
Starting an Academy
In February 2008, Gavin started his own football academy. It was called the Milligan-McCann Academy. This academy was for young players aged 8 to 12. He worked with former players Jamie Milligan and John Hills to create it. The academy helped children learn to play football.
Coaching Roles
Gavin stayed involved with Bolton Wanderers after retiring, working with their youth teams. In May 2012, he became the Assistant Manager and first team coach at Hyde. He left Hyde in 2015 to study for his professional coaching badges. He also coached a local team.
In late 2015, Gavin returned to Bolton to coach their Under-15 team. By 2018, he was coaching the Under-18 team. He left Bolton in January 2021. In February 2022, Gavin went back to Hyde United as the first team coach.

Gavin McCann lives in Lytham St Annes with his wife and children.
