Ged Grimes (born on 28 March 1962) is a talented Scottish musician, producer, and composer. He is best known as the bass player for the famous rock band Simple Minds. Before joining Simple Minds, Ged was a founding member of the Scottish pop band Danny Wilson. This band had popular songs like "Mary's Prayer" and "The Second Summer of Love." "Mary's Prayer" was even featured in the movie There's Something About Mary.

Ged Grimes's Musical Journey

Starting with Danny Wilson (1984–1991)

Ged Grimes helped start the pop band Danny Wilson in the 1980s. The band released two albums: Meet Danny Wilson and Bebop Moptop. Their song "Mary's Prayer" became a big hit, reaching the top 10 in the UK and the US. Another well-known song was "The Second Summer of Love." The band was active for about seven years before breaking up in 1991.

Working on TV, Films, and Games

After Danny Wilson, Ged Grimes started working on many different music projects. He wrote, performed, and produced music for other artists, including Eddi Reader, Simply Red, and Natalie Imbruglia.

Ged also created music for television shows and movies. He worked on a show called Tartan Shorts. He owns a music company called Jack's Hoose Music. Through his company, Ged has composed music for many video games and movie trailers. For example, he wrote the soundtrack for the PC game Earthworm Jim 3D. His music was also used in the trailer for the movie The Bourne Supremacy.

He has also contributed to music for PlayStation 2 games and mobile games, including those based on the movie series The Fast and the Furious. Other game projects include Rhythmic Star, Shrek the Third (video game), Ben 10, Goldenballs, and the iPhone/iPad game Quarrel.

In 2005, Ged moved from Dundee, Scotland, to Andalucia, Spain. He can speak Spanish fluently and managed his music business from there. He also played bass for the pop rock band Deacon Blue for a time. Before joining Simple Minds, he performed with Simple Minds lead singer Jim Kerr on a short tour for Jim's solo album, Lostboy! AKA Jim Kerr, in 2010.

Joining Simple Minds (2010–present)

On September 11, 2010, Ged Grimes officially became the new bass player for Simple Minds. His first show with the band was in Paris, France, at the Fête de l'Humanité festival. They played for a huge crowd of 80,000 people!

Since then, Ged has been a key part of Simple Minds. He appeared on their live DVD, Celebrate – Live At The Glasgow SSE Hydro, which was recorded in 2013. He has also played on several of their studio albums, including Big Music, Walk between Worlds, and Direction of the Heart.

Ged Grimes is officially supported by Sandberg Guitars for their California PM bass guitar. This means he uses their basses because he likes them. In 2011, Markbass products also announced their support for Ged, meaning he uses their bass amplifiers and equipment.
