Geismar is a community in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is not a city with its own government. Geismar is a key part of Louisiana's "chemical corridor." This means many important chemical companies are located here.
Geismar is also part of the larger Baton Rouge metropolitan area. It is located south of Prairieville. You can find it west of Gonzales. The mighty Mississippi River flows along the southwest side of the community.
Geismar is home to two excellent schools. These are Dutchtown Primary/Middle School and Dutchtown High School. Both schools are known for being among the best in Louisiana. Because Geismar is close to the coast and has low land, it can be affected by hurricanes and tropical storms.
Plant Incident in 2013
On June 13, 2013, an incident happened at the Williams Olefins plant in Geismar. This plant makes important chemicals like ethylene and propylene. These chemicals are used to create many products we use every day.
Sadly, some people were injured during the incident. Two people also died. This event was a serious accident for the community.
