Edward Darwin Lacy Jr. (born June 2, 1990) is a former professional football player. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL).
Before joining the NFL, Eddie played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was part of three teams that won the BCS National Championship. The Green Bay Packers chose him in the 2013 NFL draft.
Eddie Lacy had a great first year in the NFL. He was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. He also made the Pro Bowl and was a second-team All-Pro player. He continued to be a key player for the Packers for three more seasons. However, he missed most of the 2016 season due to an injury. In 2017, he played one season for the Seattle Seahawks.

Early Life and High School Football
Eddie Lacy was born and grew up in Gretna, Louisiana, near New Orleans. His family had to leave their home because of Hurricane Katrina. They moved to Beaumont, Texas, to stay with his aunt.
Later, his family moved to the Baton Rouge area in Louisiana. Eddie, his parents, and brothers settled in Geismar, Louisiana.
Eddie went to Dutchtown High School. He played high school football for the Griffins. In his second year, he ran for 1,207 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. He scored 34 touchdowns in his junior year. His senior year was affected by an injury, and he scored one touchdown.
In December 2008, he was chosen as a top player for the Class 5A All-State football team. This was his second year in a row to receive this honor. Experts ranked him as one of the best running backs in the country. In February 2009, Eddie decided to play college football at the University of Alabama.
College Career at Alabama
Eddie Lacy was a highly sought-after player from Dutchtown High School. He received a scholarship to the University of Alabama. He played for coach Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide football team from 2009 to 2012. During his time in college, Eddie won three BCS National Championships with the Crimson Tide.
2009 Season
The Crimson Tide had many talented running backs. These included future NFL players Mark Ingram II and Trent Richardson. Because of this, Eddie Lacy did not play in games during his first year. This is called being "redshirted."
2010 Season
In 2010, Eddie became the third-string running back. He played behind Ingram and Richardson. In his first college game against San Jose State, Eddie ran for 113 yards. He also scored two touchdowns. For the 2010 season, he gained 406 rushing yards and scored six touchdowns. He averaged 7.25 yards per carry.
2011 Season
After Ingram left for the NFL, Richardson became the top running back. Eddie Lacy moved up to the second spot for the 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide football team. People thought that the duo of Richardson and Lacy would be one of the best ever.
Richardson said that Eddie's "spin move" made him special. This move earned Eddie the nickname "Circle Button." This is because the "circle button" on PlayStation games makes a player do a spin move.
In the first game of the 2011 season against Kent State, Eddie gained 134 yards. This included 76 receiving yards and 58 rushing yards. In the next game, he rushed for 85 yards against Penn State. In the game after that, he ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns against North Texas. His 67-yard touchdown run was chosen as Alabama's Play of the Week.
Against Arkansas, Eddie rushed for 61 yards and one touchdown. He got a foot injury in this game. He did not play the next week against Vanderbilt.
During the 2011 regular season, Eddie Lacy had 631 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. His average of 7.5 yards per carry was one of the best in college football.
2012 Season
In 2012, Eddie became the main starting running back for Alabama. This happened after Trent Richardson went to the NFL. His backup was a new player named T. J. Yeldon. Both Eddie and Yeldon ran for over 1,000 yards that year.
In the game against Arkansas, Eddie had 55 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Against Missouri, he gained 177 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns. In the Iron Bowl game against Auburn, he ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
He finished the 2012 season with great performances. He rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns in the 2012 SEC Championship Game. In the 2013 BCS Championship Game against Notre Dame, he had 140 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. He also caught a pass for a touchdown. He was named the Offensive MVP for the BCS Championship game.
Eddie finished the year with 1,322 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. He also had two receiving touchdowns. On January 11, 2013, he decided to leave college early and enter the 2013 NFL draft.

Professional Career
Eddie Lacy was seen as one of the best running back prospects for the 2013 NFL draft. He was known for being agile, strong, and able to break tackles.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers chose Eddie Lacy in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. He was the 61st player picked overall. He was the fourth running back chosen that year. On May 30, 2013, he signed his contract with the Packers.
2013 Season
Eddie Lacy played his first NFL game against the San Francisco 49ers. He ran for 41 yards and scored a touchdown. He had a concussion in a game against the Washington Redskins on September 15, 2013. He returned to play against the Detroit Lions on October 6, 2013.
Later that season, he ran for over 100 yards in four different games. He had his best rushing game against the Chicago Bears, running for 150 yards. On December 15, he passed 1,000 rushing yards for the season against the Dallas Cowboys. He ran for 141 yards and a touchdown in that game.
Eddie finished his first season with an impressive 1,178 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 257 receiving yards. He set new records for Packers rookies for most rushing yards and touchdowns in a season. He was named second-team All-Pro and made the NFC Pro Bowl. The Packers made the playoffs with an 8–7–1 record. In the playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers, he ran for 81 yards, but the Packers lost.
Eddie Lacy was named the 2013 Offensive Rookie of The Year. He was the first Packers player to win this award since 1971. He was also the first Packers player to rush for over 1,000 yards since 2009. His fellow players ranked him 90th among the top 100 NFL players in 2014.
2014 Season
The Packers started the 2014 season against the Seattle Seahawks. Eddie had 34 rushing yards and 11 receiving yards. He got a concussion during this game and left in the second half.
Eddie had his first 100-yard rushing game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings. He ran for 105 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also had 27 receiving yards in a 42–10 win. In the second game against the Vikings, he ran for 125 yards and a touchdown. He also had a receiving touchdown. In the last game of the season against the Detroit Lions, he had his third game with over 100 rushing yards.
After a slow start, Eddie finished the season strong. He had 1,139 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry. Eddie became only the second Packers player to rush for over 1,000 yards in his first two NFL seasons. He also caught 42 passes for 427 yards and four touchdowns.
The Packers earned a first-round break in the playoffs. In the Divisional Round against the Dallas Cowboys, Eddie ran for 101 yards in a 26–21 win. 2015 Season
Eddie Lacy started the 2015 season with 85 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Chicago Bears. In Week 2, he left the game against the Seattle Seahawks with an ankle injury. X-rays showed it was a minor injury. In Week 9, he left the game against the Carolina Panthers with a groin injury.
On December 13, he ran for 124 yards and a touchdown in a 28–7 win over the Dallas Cowboys. For the 2015 season, he finished with 758 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also had 20 catches for 188 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
The Packers made the playoffs again. They played against the Washington Redskins in the Wild Card Round. Eddie had 63 rushing yards and a touchdown in the 35–18 victory. In the Divisional Round against the Arizona Cardinals, he ran for 89 yards. The Packers lost in overtime.
2016 Season
Eddie Lacy started the 2016 season with 61 rushing yards in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. On October 11, he hurt his ankle in a game against the New York Giants. He was placed on the injured reserve list on October 20, 2016. This meant he could not play for the rest of the season.
He started the first five games of the season. He ran for 360 yards on 71 attempts. He averaged a career-high 5.1 yards per carry in 2016, but did not score any touchdowns.
Seattle Seahawks
On March 14, 2017, Eddie Lacy signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He was offered similar contracts by other teams but chose Seattle. As part of his contract, he had to meet certain weight goals. On June 12, 2017, he successfully met his first weight goal.
Eddie had a challenging 2017 season with the Seahawks. There were many running backs on the team. In his first game with the Seahawks, he had three rushing yards against his former team, the Green Bay Packers. Overall, he finished the 2017 season with 179 rushing yards. He also had six catches for 47 receiving yards.
