Gemert Castle

In the center of Gemert, there is an old castle. Some parts of this castle are very old, dating back to the Late Middle Ages. It has been rebuilt and changed many times over the years.

The castle was first built by German knights. They lived there for hundreds of years. Today, the castle is home to monks and nuns. An even older castle, a "motte-and-bailey" (a type of castle built on a mound), was found nearby in 1995. It is believed that Diederik van Gemert, who founded the town, once lived there.
