Discover North Brabant
North Brabant is one of the twelve provinces that make up the Netherlands. It's known for its rich history and diverse landscapes. The province was officially included in the Netherlands in 1815.
Geography and Neighbors
North Brabant covers a total area of about 4,919 square kilometers. A small part of this area, about 162 square kilometers, is covered by water. This makes it the second largest province in the Netherlands by land area.
The province is located in the south, sharing a border with Belgium. This means it has a unique blend of Dutch and Belgian influences. The Meuse River forms a natural northern border, which is important for trade and transport.
Important Cities
The capital city, s-Hertogenbosch, is a historic place with beautiful old buildings. It's a center for culture and government in the province.
Eindhoven is the largest city in North Brabant. It is famous for its technology and design industries. Many big companies have their headquarters or research centers here.
How North Brabant is Governed
Like other provinces in the Netherlands, North Brabant has its own government. The main leader is called the King's Commissioner. This person is chosen by the King and represents the national government in the province.
The King's Commissioner helps manage the province and works with local councils. As of 2017, the population of North Brabant was over 2.5 million people. This makes it the third most populated province in the Netherlands.
