General Carrera Province (in Spanish: Provincia de General Carrera) is a special area in southern Chile. It is one of four provinces that make up the Aysén region. The main city, or capital, of this province is Chile Chico.
How General Carrera Province is Governed
A province is like a local government area. General Carrera Province is run by a provincial Governor. The President of Chile chooses this governor.
The province is divided into two smaller areas called communes. These are Río Ibáñez and Chile Chico. Each commune has its own local government, called a municipality. The person in charge of a municipality is called an alcalde.
