Discovering the Genesis Tree
How the Tree Was Found
The Genesis Tree was discovered in 1985. Two explorers, Wendell Flint and Mike Law, found it. They were looking for very big trees in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.
Naming the Giant Tree
When they found this huge tree, it hadn't been officially named or measured before. They measured it carefully. They found it was a little smaller than another famous tree called the Boole tree. The Boole tree is in the Converse Basin Grove.
Its Place Among Giants
However, the Genesis Tree was larger than the Franklin tree. The Franklin tree was, at that time, the seventh largest tree in the world. Because of this, the Genesis Tree became the new seventh largest tree overall. It also became the biggest tree in the Mountain Home grove!
Size and Measurements
How Big is the Genesis Tree?
The Genesis Tree is truly enormous. Wendell D. Flint measured its size. Even though parts of the tree have been burned, these measurements help us understand its massive size.
