Genoa is a city in the north-east part of DeKalb County, Illinois, in the United States. It is located on an old stagecoach route called the Galena-Chicago trail. In 2020, about 5,298 people lived there. This was a small increase from 5,193 people in 2010.

History of Genoa, Illinois
Genoa was first settled around 1835. A man named Thomas Madison started the settlement. He was a soldier from the American Revolutionary War. Madison named the town Genoa after a place with the same name in New York.
Genoa officially became a village in 1876. Later, on September 9, 1911, it became a city.

Genoa covers a total area of about 2.655 square miles (6.85 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 2.6 square miles (6.71 square kilometers). A smaller part, about 0.055 square miles (0.14 square kilometers), is water.

Education in Genoa
Genoa is part of the Genoa-Kingston (GK) School District. This district also includes the nearby village of Kingston. The district has four public schools for students of different ages.

The school district's mascot is a "Cog." The school sports teams are called the G-K Cogs. Their team colors are royal blue and orange.
Sports Teams and Achievements
Genoa-Kingston High School offers many sports for students. Girls can play basketball, cheerleading, cross country, dance, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball. Boys can play football, baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, track and field, and wrestling.
The town has won three state championships:
- The football team won in 1977.
- The girls track team won in 1989.
- The girls volleyball team won in 2022.
Genoa-Kingston High School competes in the Big Northern Conference (BNC). Genoa-Kingston Middle School competes in the Mid-Northern Conference (MNC).

- Edward D. Shurtleff, an Illinois state lawmaker and judge, was born in Genoa.
