Joel Tan (born on March 23, 1994), known as Gentle Bones, is a singer and songwriter from Singapore. He became very popular after releasing his first collection of songs, called an EP, in 2014. His songs quickly climbed the charts on iTunes and Spotify. This made him one of Singapore's most famous music artists.

Gentle Bones' Music Journey

Starting Out and Early Success

Joel Tan began playing the guitar and writing songs when he was 16 years old in 2010. He started sharing cover songs on YouTube in late 2011. His YouTube channel quickly gained thousands of followers. He chose the name "Gentle Bones" because it sounded mysterious and like a puzzle.

Big Performances and First EP

Gentle Bones has performed at many big music events in Singapore. These include the Noise Festival in 2011 and the Mosaic Music Festival in 2012. He also performed at the launch of the SEA Games in 2014. In the same year, he released his first EP, named Gentle Bones.

His first song from the EP, "Until We Die," became number one on the iTunes chart in 2013. Other songs like "Save Me" and "Elusive" also did very well. They reached number one and number three on the same charts.

Signing with Universal Music

In 2015, Gentle Bones made history. He became the first Singaporean artist to sign with Universal Music Singapore. This was a huge step in his career!

He also wrote two special songs. "You're Almost There" was for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games held in Singapore. "Sixty Five" was featured in the historical movie 1965. He also worked with another artist, MMXJ, on a song called "Kings."

Gentle Bones also teamed up with the clothing brand Topman. He joined the *SCAPE Invasion Tour, performing his music at different schools. He toured with other artists like Shigga Shay and Daphne Khoo.

New Music and Achievements

On June 3, 2016, Gentle Bones released his second EP, Geniuses & Thieves. It immediately went to the top of the iTunes chart. He also held two sold-out concerts in June 2016 at the Esplanade.

He even collaborated with Topman to sell his Geniuses & Thieves merchandise. This happened at their store in ION Orchard in May 2016.

In the same year, when he was just 21, Gentle Bones was named one of Forbes' "30 Under 30" for entertainment. This list highlights young, successful people.

Recent Collaborations

In 2020, Gentle Bones released his first song in Mandarin. It was called "你还不知道?(Don't You Know Yet?)" and featured singer-songwriter Tay Kewei. It was a calm song about young love.

He also worked with Benjamin Kheng in 2020. They released an EP together called Better With You. This EP was streamed over a million times on Spotify in less than two months.

More recently, Gentle Bones released a song called 'A Day At A Time'. This was his first collaboration with an artist from another country, Filipino singer-songwriter Clara Benin.

On June 10, 2022, Gentle Bones announced a new music duo. He teamed up with Lullaboy to form "Bones & The Boy." Their first song together was "Good In Me."
