George Assang (1927–1997) was a talented Australian singer and actor. He was known for his jazz and blues music. George came from Thursday Island in Queensland, Australia. He performed using his own name, George Assang, and also a stage name, Vic Sabrino. George had a mixed background, with Aboriginal, Pacific Islander, and Asian heritage.

George Assang's Music Journey
George Assang was also known as Vic Sabrino when he sang. He might have made one of Australia's very first rock and roll recordings! He recorded a song called "Rock Around the Clock" in 1955. This was with a French jazz artist named Red Perksey and his orchestra. This recording was made even before Johnny O'Keefe's famous song "Wild One" in 1958. George Assang released music under both his names, including albums and singles.

Besides singing, George Assang was also an actor in TV shows and movies. He had a big role in a TV series called Barrier Reef from 1971 to 1972. He also appeared in popular shows like Skippy and Hunter in 1968. Other TV shows he was in include Spyforce (1971), Boney (1972), and Number 96 (1974).
George also acted in several films. These included The Intruders (1969) and And Millions Will Die (1973). He even lent his voice to the animated movie Dot and the Kangaroo in 1977. In 1958, he had his own short TV show called Vic Sabrino Sings, where he performed songs.
