George Courtauld (born August 11, 1830 – died February 29, 1920) was an English businessman who made cloth. He was also a Liberal politician who served in the House of Commons, which is part of the UK Parliament, from 1878 to 1885.

George Courtauld was born in 1830. His father was also named George Courtauld, and they lived in Bocking, Essex, England. George went to University College, London for his education.
His family had a long history in the cloth business. His grandfather, George Courtauld, started the company called Samuel Courtauld & Co. Young George later became a partner in this successful family business.
A Career in Politics
George Courtauld was interested in helping his community. He became a Justice of the Peace for Essex, which meant he helped keep law and order in the area.
In December 1878, George was chosen in a special election to become a Member of Parliament (MP) for Maldon. An MP is someone elected by people to represent them in the country's government. He was part of the Liberal Party.
As an MP, George Courtauld believed in important changes for society. He was a Unitarian, which is a type of Christian faith. He supported social reform, meaning he wanted to improve society for everyone. He also supported extending the right to vote to more people. He served as an MP until 1885.

George Courtauld was married three times. His first wife was Mina Bromley, whom he married in 1855. After she passed away, he married Susanna Elizabeth Savill in 1864. He married again in 1888. George and his wives had a large family with 13 children in total. His oldest daughter was Katharine Courtauld.
George Courtauld lived a long life and passed away at the age of 89.
