George Brewer spent many years working for the public. He was a legislator, which means he helped make laws. From 1857 to 1859, he was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives. Then, from 1859 to 1863, he served in the Alabama Senate.

He also worked in education. In 1856, he was elected as the Superintendent of Education for Coosa County, Alabama. This job meant he was in charge of schools in that area. Later, in 1866, he was appointed Adjutant General of Alabama. This was a high-ranking state position.

Serving in the Civil War

During the American Civil War, George Brewer served in the military. He was a Captain in the Confederate States Army. He was part of Company A of the 36th Alabama Infantry Regiment. He served from 1862 to 1865.

A Man of Faith and History

Beyond his political and military roles, George Brewer was also a Baptist minister. He was ordained as an Elder in October 1860. This shows his strong faith. He was also known as a historian. He studied and wrote about the past, helping people understand history better.
