George Edward Akerson (born September 5, 1889 – died December 21, 1937) was an American journalist and an important person in politics. He made history as the first official White House Press Secretary. This means he was the main person who spoke for the President to the news reporters.

Growing Up and Learning
George Akerson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 5, 1889. He loved to learn and went to college at the University of Minnesota and Allegheny College. In 1910, Akerson started studying at Harvard University. He earned a BA in Political Science in 1912.
Family Life
On June 28, 1915, George Akerson married Harriet Blake. Harriet was a graduate of Wellesley College. Together, they had three sons.
Later Life and Passing
George Akerson developed a kidney disease. He passed away on December 21, 1937, in New York City, New York. He was 48 years old.
