Early Life and Work

George Frost was born in 1754. His father was a builder in a place called Ousden in Suffolk. George first learned his father's building trade. Later, he got a job at the Blue Coach office in Ipswich. He worked there for most of his life, until about eight years before he passed away.

Becoming an Artist

George Frost loved drawing from a young age. He taught himself how to paint and draw. An article written after his death said his drawings were amazing. It also said his artworks showed he was a true master.

He studied nature very closely. He was great at showing its beauty in his art. He noticed all the details of nature. He had a special way of drawing different natural shapes. The places he chose to paint were always interesting. Everything he drew felt real and original. His art clearly showed the look and feel of the county where he lived.

Artistic Style and Friends

George Frost really admired and copied the famous painter Thomas Gainsborough. Frost owned some of Gainsborough's paintings and drawings. He even made a careful copy of Gainsborough's painting "The Mall" when he was 77 years old.

Frost was also a close friend of another well-known artist, John Constable. Because George Frost worked in Ipswich, he mostly painted scenes from that town and the areas nearby. This meant his art was not very well known outside of Ipswich.
