George Lee Johnson (born December 8, 1956) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played as a forward and center.
George Johnson was known for his strong play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for several teams from 1978 to 1985.
Early Life and College Career
George Johnson was born in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up playing basketball and went to New Utrecht High School. After high school, he attended St. John's University. He played college basketball for the St. John's Red Storm from 1974 to 1978. In his final year, 1978, he won the Haggerty Award. This award goes to the best college basketball player in the New York City area.
Playing in the NBA
George Johnson was chosen by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the 1978 NBA draft. He was the 12th player picked overall. He started his professional career with the Bucks in the 1978–79 season.
Over his NBA career, George Johnson played for five different teams:

- Denver Nuggets (1979–1980)
- Indiana Pacers (1980–1984)
- Philadelphia 76ers (1984–1985)
- Washington Bullets (1985–1986)
He was a strong player who could score points and grab rebounds. During his time in the NBA, he averaged 9.1 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. He also helped his teammates by getting 1.8 assists per game.
Later Career
After his time in the NBA, George Johnson continued to play basketball. He played for teams in other leagues and countries. For example, he played in Spain for Badajoz Caja Rural and Valvi Girona. He also played in Italy for S. Bennedetto Gorizia.
In 1992, George Johnson became a player-coach for the Long Island Surf. This team was part of the United States Basketball League. He finished his playing career that same year.
