George Osmond (born May 23, 1836 – died March 25, 1913) was an important leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also served as a judge and a state senator in Wyoming.

Early Life and Church Membership

George Osmond was born in London, England. When he was 14 years old, in 1850, he started learning to build ships in Woolwich. While working there, he first learned about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He decided to join the church and was baptized on November 27, 1850.

In 1854, George sailed across the ocean on a ship called the Clara Wheeler. He arrived in New Orleans, USA. From there, he traveled to St. Louis, where he worked for a famous engineer named James Eads. In 1855, while still in St. Louis, George Osmond married Georgina Huckvale.

Moving West

Later in 1855, George and his wife moved to Utah Territory. They first settled in a town called Bountiful. After some time, they moved to Willard. In 1864, they moved again to the Bear Lake area, settling in Bloomington, Idaho.

Church Service

George Osmond served in many important roles in his church. He was a local church leader, known as a bishop, in Bloomington for seven years. After that, he became an advisor to William Budge, who led the church's group in the Bear Lake area, called a Stake.

From 1884 to 1886, George Osmond served as a Mormon missionary in England. During this time, he also helped edit a church newspaper called the Millennial Star. He went on another mission to the British Isles from 1890 to 1892. On this mission, he led church groups in Scotland and then in London.

Soon after returning to the United States in 1892, George Osmond was asked to lead a new church group in Star Valley.

Public Service and Family

George Osmond also served his community in government roles. At different times, he worked as a judge, handling legal cases and local disputes. From 1899 to 1905, he served two terms as a state senator in Wyoming. He represented Uinta County, Wyoming as a member of the Republican party.

George Osmond had a large family. His son, Rulon Osmond, was the father of George Osmond. This second George Osmond was the father of the famous musical group, The Osmonds.

George Osmond passed away in Montpelier, Idaho on March 25, 1913.
