The Osmonds are a famous American family music group. They became very popular in the early 1970s. This family of musicians is from Ogden, Utah. They have been performing for people since the 1960s.

The Osmond Family Music Group
The Osmond family is known for their musical talents. The group started with four brothers. These brothers were Alan, Wayne, Merrill, and Jay. They began by singing together as a barbershop quartet.
How They Became Famous
Later, their younger brothers Donny and Jimmy joined the group. Donny also had a lot of success singing by himself. When Donny joined, the group became known as The Osmonds.
They were very popular with teenagers. They sang soft rock music. Their most famous period was from late 1970 to 1975. Their only sister, Marie, usually did not sing with her brothers. However, she started her own successful music career in 1973. She also sang many songs with Donny as a duet.
From Music to TV
By 1976, The Osmonds were not making as many hit songs. So, they moved into television. They had a very popular TV show called Donny & Marie. This show was a variety show, meaning it had music, comedy, and other performances. It ran until 1979.
Later Years and Solo Careers
In the 1980s, the original Osmond Brothers sang together again. They had some success in country music. Donny and Marie also made comebacks in their own music careers in the late 1980s.
The Osmond Brothers have sold 77 million records. As a whole family, they have sold 100 million records around the world.
As of 2019, The Osmond Brothers group includes Merrill and Jay. They perform as a duo. Donny and Marie still perform together as well. Jimmy, Merrill, and Donny also have their own solo music careers.
Alan's sons have also performed as a "Second Generation" of the group. They started in the late 1980s. One of Alan's sons, David Osmond, sometimes fills in for Donny. David has also had some success as a solo artist.
