George Pugh is a well-known figure in American football. He has been both a player and a coach. Currently, he works with the Miles Golden Bears. He is their tight ends coach, halfbacks coach, and director of football operations. The Golden Bears play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

Playing Days

George Pugh played college football from 1972 to 1975. He was a tight end for the Alabama Crimson Tide. During his time there, his team won a national championship in 1973. This was a big achievement for him as a player.

Early Coaching Roles

After playing, George Pugh began his coaching career. He started as an assistant coach at Columbia High School in Georgia in 1976. The next year, he became the head coach there. He then moved on to coach at the college level. He worked with teams like Chattanooga and New Mexico. He also coached at Pittsburgh and Texas A&M.

Leading a College Team

George Pugh became a head football coach at Alabama A&M University. He led the Bulldogs from 1989 to 1991. During his time there, his teams had a strong record. He won 17 games and lost 12.

Pugh's time at Alabama A&M was very successful. His teams won the SIAC championship twice. They won in both 1989 and 1990. In 1989, his team went 8–4 overall. They had a perfect 6–0 record in their conference. They even made it to the NCAA Division II playoffs that year. In 1990, they won the conference again with a 6–1 record.

After his head coaching role, Pugh continued to coach. He coached at high schools like Selma High School and Luverne High School. He also returned to college football as an assistant coach. He worked with teams such as UAB, Arkansas, and Houston. From 2008 to 2016, he was an assistant head coach and wide receivers coach at Georgia State.

More recently, George Pugh has also taken on management roles. From 2016 to 2017, he was the director of player personnel at the University of Memphis. Since 2022, he has been with the Miles Golden Bears. He serves as their director of football operations, in addition to his coaching duties.
