George Selvie, born on March 6, 1987, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He was part of teams like the St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys. Before the NFL, he played college football for the South Florida Bulls. He was recognized as an All-American in 2007 for his amazing college performance. The St. Louis Rams chose him in the 2010 NFL draft.
Early Life and High School Football
George Selvie moved around a lot when he was a kid. This was because of his father's military career. He went to Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida. There, he played both center and defensive tackle.
In his final year of high school, he made 55 tackles and 6 sacks. He was named to the second-team Class 3A and Emerald Coast All-star teams. Besides football, he also competed in weightlifting.
College Football Career
Selvie received a football scholarship to the University of South Florida. He was first recruited to play center. However, in 2006, during his first year, he switched to defensive end.
Freshman Year (2006)
He started all 13 games as a right defensive end. He had 83 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He also forced 4 fumbles and recovered 2. In one game against West Virginia University, he recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Sporting News named him to their Freshman All-America team.
Sophomore Year (2007)
This was a huge year for Selvie. He was named a consensus All-American. He also won the Big East Defensive Player of the Year award. He started all 13 games. He recorded 59 tackles and 14.5 sacks, which was second best in the NCAA. He also led the NCAA with 31.5 tackles for loss. In one game, he tied a school record with 4 sacks. He also set a school record with 6 tackles for loss.
Junior Year (2008)
In 2008, he played in 12 games, starting 11. He missed some games due to an ankle injury. He still managed 43 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He became the first player in his school's history to be a two-time first-team All-American.
Senior Year (2009)
As a senior, he started all 13 games. He had 42 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He also had 9.5 tackles for loss. In a game against Florida State University, he had one sack and recovered a fumble.
College Records and Honors
George Selvie played in 51 college games. He set school records for career starts (50), sacks (29), and tackles for loss (69.5). He also set records for forced fumbles (9). His 69.5 career tackles for loss were second in NCAA history. He also set a Big East Conference record.
In 2019, he was honored by being added to the University of South Florida Athletic Hall of Fame.

Professional Football Career
George Selvie was chosen by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL draft. He played for several teams during his NFL career.
St. Louis Rams (2010)
As a rookie, he played in all 16 games. He was a backup defensive end. He finished the season with 21 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He also had one tackle on special teams.
Carolina Panthers (2011)
In 2011, the Carolina Panthers picked him up. He played in four games for them. He recorded two tackles before being released.
Jacksonville Jaguars (2011–2012)
Later in 2011, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him. He played in 7 games, making 4 tackles and half a sack. He also recovered one fumble. In 2012, he played in 9 games as a backup. He had 15 tackles and one sack. He missed some games due to knee and concussion injuries.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2013)
In April 2013, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, he was released a month later.
Dallas Cowboys (2013–2014)
In July 2013, Selvie joined the Dallas Cowboys. He was brought in to help the team because of other players' injuries. He quickly impressed everyone. He even started the Hall of Fame Game. He had 2 sacks in that game.
He kept surprising people and became a starter on September 8. His defensive line coach called him "Bricklayer." He started all 16 games that season. He was a very important player for the team. He finished 2013 with 45 tackles and 7 sacks. He also forced one fumble and recovered one.
In 2014, he started 13 games for the Cowboys. He recorded 30 tackles and 3 sacks. He also forced one fumble and recovered one.
New York Giants (2015)
In 2015, he signed a one-year contract with the New York Giants. He was expected to be a reserve player. But injuries to other players meant he started 3 games. He finished the season with 26 tackles and one sack. He also recovered one fumble.
