George Michael Small was born on November 18, 1956. He is an American gridiron football coach and a former player. He has coached many college football teams. He also played football professionally.

George Small has had an exciting career in football. He started as a player and then became a coach. He played for big teams like the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL). He also played for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Playing Days
George Small played as a Defensive tackle. This position is important for stopping the other team's offense. He played college football for North Carolina A&T. After college, he joined the NFL. He played for the New York Giants in 1980. Then, he moved to the CFL. He played for the Calgary Stampeders from 1981 to 1983.
Coaching Career Highlights
After his playing career, George Small became a football coach. A head coach leads the entire team. They plan strategies and guide the players. He was the head coach at Kentucky State University from 1995 to 2000. During his time there, his team won 33 games.
Later, he coached at his old college, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He was the head coach from 2003 to 2005. In 2003, he led the team to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. This is a big achievement for a college team. He also won the MEAC Coach of the Year award in 2003.
George Small has also won other awards. He was named SIAC Coach of the Year twice. This was in 1995 and 1997. He is currently coaching high school football. He is the head coach at Hoke County High School in North Carolina. In 2019, he was named Sandhills Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
