Before he became an Earl in 1769, George Villiers was a member of the House of Commons. This is one of the two main parts of the British Parliament. He represented different areas like Tamworth, Aldborough, and Dover.

He followed the political ideas of the Duke of Grafton. From 1761 to 1763, he was a Lord of the Admiralty. This meant he helped manage the Royal Navy.

In 1765, he joined the Privy Council. This was a group of trusted advisors to the King. He also served as the King's Vice-Chamberlain until 1769.

Roles at Court

When George became the 4th Earl of Jersey in 1769, he joined the House of Lords. This is the other part of Parliament. He also took on several roles at the King's court.

He was a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King George III from 1769 to 1777. Later, he became the Master of the Buckhounds from 1782 to 1783. This role involved managing the royal hunting dogs. He held other court positions until 1800. People sometimes called him the "Prince of Maccaronies" because of his polite and fashionable manners.

In 1787, he became a member of the Society of Antiquaries. This group studies history and old objects.
