George Washington White (born May 6, 1931 – died November 12, 2011) was an important judge in the United States. He served as a federal judge for the Northern District of Ohio.

Early Life and Education
George Washington White was born in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, on May 6, 1931. He went to Cleveland–Marshall College of Law. In 1955, he earned his law degree, which is called a Juris Doctor.
A Career in Law and Public Service
After finishing school, George Washington White began his career. From 1956 to 1968, he worked as a private lawyer in Cleveland, Ohio. He also served as a "Referee" for the Court of Common Pleas in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. This role lasted from 1957 to 1962.
White also got involved in local government. He was a city councilman in Cleveland from 1963 to 1968. Later, he became a judge for the Court of Common Pleas. He held this position from 1968 until 1980.
Serving as a Federal Judge
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter chose George Washington White to be a federal judge. He was nominated for a new judge position in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. The United States Senate approved his nomination on May 21, 1980. He officially became a judge on May 23, 1980.
Chief Judge and Senior Status
Judge White took on more responsibility in 1995. He became the Chief Judge for the Northern District of Ohio. He served in this leadership role until 1999. On February 26, 1999, he took "senior status." This means he continued to work as a judge but with a reduced caseload. George Washington White passed away on November 12, 2011, in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
