The Georgia Railroad Freight Depot is a really old building in downtown Atlanta. It was finished way back in 1869. This makes it the oldest building still standing in the downtown area!

Where is the Depot Located?
The depot is on the east side of Central Avenue. It's near the MARTA train lines. You can find it at the north end of Steve Polk Plaza. This plaza also has the old World of Coca-Cola building. You can even get to Underground Atlanta from here through a tunnel!
A Look at Its History
The Georgia Railroad Freight Depot was built in 1869. The architects who designed it were Max Corput and Bass. It was super important for the Georgia Railroad and Banking Company. This company used it as their main place to store and move goods by train.
What Happened in 1935?
Sadly, a big fire happened in 1935. This fire badly damaged the depot. It destroyed the top floors of the building. It also ruined the cupola, which is a small dome-like structure on the roof.
Modern Use and Renovations
In 1981, the building got a major makeover. It was renovated to be a place for special events. Now, it can hold many people! It can fit 800 guests if they are seated. If people are standing, it can hold up to 1300 guests.
