Georgiana Bloomfield, Baroness Bloomfield (born Georgiana Liddell; 13 April 1822 – 21 May 1905) was a British courtier and author. A courtier is someone who attends a royal court. She was known for her interesting stories and her helpful nature.

A Life of Travel and Service

Georgiana Liddell was born in London on 13 April 1822. She was the youngest child of Thomas Liddell, who was the first Baron Ravensworth. Her mother was Maria Susannah Simpson. Georgiana was taught at home.

In December 1841, she became a maid of honour to Queen Victoria. This meant she helped the Queen. She left this job in July 1845. On 4 September 1845, she married John Bloomfield, 2nd Baron Bloomfield. He was a diplomat. A diplomat works for their country in other nations.

Georgiana joined her husband on his travels for work. They lived in many different countries. Soon after their marriage, they went to Hamburg and then St Petersburg. From 1851 to 1860, they lived in Berlin. Then, from 1861 to 1871, they lived in Vienna. Georgiana and John did not have any children.

After her husband passed away in 1879, Lady Bloomfield moved to Shrivenham. She wanted to be close to her sister, Jane Elizabeth. When her sister died in 1883, Lady Bloomfield moved again. She settled at Bramfield House, near Hertford. There, she often welcomed guests. She also took a great interest in the local village.

Writing and Hobbies

Lady Bloomfield was a talented writer. In 1883, she published a two-volume book. It was called Reminiscences of Court and Diplomatic Life. This book was full of interesting stories. It told about her time at court and her life as a diplomat's wife.

In 1884, she edited another two-volume book. This one was about her father-in-law. It was titled Memoir of Benjamin, Lord Bloomfield. Her last book came out in 1902. It was called Gleanings of a Long Life. This book was a collection of her favorite quotes.

Lady Bloomfield was a very kind person. She kept her friendship with Queen Victoria. She also enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life. She was a deeply religious person. She was also very understanding and generous.

She started the Trained Nurses' Annuity Fund in 1874. This fund helped nurses. She also built and supported almshouses. Almshouses are homes for people in need. These were on her husband's land near Newport.

Georgiana had many hobbies. She was good at painting with water-colours. Her sketches helped her remember her travels. She was also a skilled musician and played the organ. She was a good billiard player. And she loved gardening.

Final Years

Lady Bloomfield passed away after a long illness. She died at Bramfield House on 21 May 1905. She was buried next to her husband. Their family mausoleum is in the churchyard of Borrisnafarney, King's County, Ireland.
