German Molina Moreno (born October 4, 1933 – died January 8, 2016) was a famous Filipino TV host, actor, and talent manager. Many people knew him as Kuya Germs or "The Master Showman." He was also a comedian, producer, writer, and director. He helped many young stars become famous in the Philippines.

Early Life of German Moreno

German Moreno was born on October 4, 1933. His father was Jose Moreno y Calvo, and his mother was Aurora Molina. German had one sister, Pilar. Before becoming famous, he worked many jobs. He helped with a taxi company and sold snacks like bibingka and peanuts. He even called out passengers for jeepneys.

Kuya Germs' Career Journey

Starting in Entertainment

German started in entertainment in 1957. He worked as a janitor and a telonero (curtain raiser) at the Clover Theater. His first acting role was playing Jesus Christ at the Manila Grand Opera House. Later, he became a comedian on the bodabil stage and in movies after the war.

Becoming "The Master Showman"

In 1963, German Moreno joined Sampaguita Pictures. This was a big movie studio with stars like Dolphy and Gloria Romero. He hosted a movie premiere and asked for movie roles instead of money. He then acted in films like Dance-O-Rama and Class Reunion. Here, he met his long-time co-host, Ike Lozada.

German also worked in radio. He was a disc jockey and later had his own shows. These included Bisita Artista and Guy and Pip Song Festival. In his later years, he hosted a daily show on DZBB.

His biggest success came on television in the late 1970s. He hosted the Sunday variety show, GMA Supershow. He then became the host, star builder, and producer of That's Entertainment. This show helped many young people become big stars in the Philippines. He also hosted a late-night show called Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman.

German Moreno also produced TV films. Some of these were Kung Mayroon Mang Pangarap and Larawan ng Isang Ina.

Walk of Fame and Awards

German Moreno started the Eastwood City Walk of Fame in Quezon City in 2005. It is like the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California. He also created the GMA Network's Walk of Fame in 2014.

The FAMAS Awards started giving out the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award in 1996. This award honors young stars for their great work in movies. The Philippine Movie Press Club also named an award after him, the German Moreno Power Tandem Award. This award is for popular love teams on TV.

German was also the former president of KAPPT, a group for Filipino actors in film and TV. In 2013, he celebrated 50 years in entertainment. A special event called 50 Years With The Master Showman honored him. Many stars he helped discover attended this event.

In his last months, German was a creative consultant for Sunday PinaSaya. He had a special chair on the set to watch the show. His last public appearance was at GMA Network's 2016 New Year countdown.

German Moreno's Family Life

German Moreno had an adopted son named Federico Moreno. His grandson, Luis Moreno, is a skilled archer. His nephew, John Nite, also hosted Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman.

Health and Passing

German Moreno had a mild stroke on January 2, 2015. His health improved after that. He returned to his TV shows.

One year later, on January 7, 2016, he was rushed to St. Luke's Medical Center. He passed away on January 8, 2016, at 3:20 AM, from a cardiac arrest. He was 82 years old. His show Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman aired a live tribute to him. He was buried in Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina. The show ended on February 13, 2016, a month after his death.

Legacy and Tributes

A special tribute concert called The Master Showman's Final Bow aired on February 26, 2016. German's son, Federico, announced the creation of the German Moreno Foundation. This foundation will continue his support for Mowelfund and honor stars through the Eastwood City Walk of Fame.

The German Moreno Power Tandem Award is still given out today. In 2018, Studio 6 at the GMA Network Studio Annex was renamed The German Moreno Studio. This was done to honor his legacy and celebrate his 85th birthday. It now hosts the show TiktoClock.
