Gerome Daren Sapp, born on February 8, 1981, is a former American football player. He played as a safety, a position in football where players help defend against passes and tackle opponents. Gerome was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2003 NFL draft after playing college football at Notre Dame.
Early Life and High School
Gerome Sapp grew up in Houston, Texas. He went to Lamar High School, where he was a fantastic football player. He was even named an All-American, which means he was one of the best high school players in the country!
USA Today newspaper also recognized him as one of the top 100 football players in his class. Gerome also got to play in a special All-Star game, where the best high school players from Texas competed against the best from California.
College Football Star
After high school, Gerome Sapp went to the University of Notre Dame. He played college football for the famous Notre Dame Fighting Irish team. During his time there, he showed off his skills as a safety.
He made 155 tackles, which means he stopped the opposing team's players many times. He also recovered 3 fumbles (when a player drops the ball) and made 5 interceptions (when he caught a pass meant for an opposing player). Plus, he broke up 9 passes and forced one fumble.
Playing in the NFL
In 2003, Gerome Sapp was picked by the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL draft. This was a big step, as he joined the professional football league! He played for the Ravens for two seasons.
Later, he moved to the Indianapolis Colts for a short time. After that, he returned to play for the Baltimore Ravens again. Throughout his NFL career, Gerome Sapp made a total of 111 tackles, showing his strength as a defensive player.
