Gert-Jan Segers (born 9 July 1969) is a Dutch politician. From 2015 to 2023, he was the leader of a political party called the Christian Union. He was also a member of the Dutch Parliament from 2012 to 2023. During that time, he led his party's group in parliament.

Early Life and Studies
Gert-Jan Segers was born in Lisse, a town in the Netherlands. He went to Leiden University to study political science. This is the study of how governments work and how people make decisions together. He earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University. There, he focused on how Western countries and Islamic countries relate to each other.
Working Abroad and Writing
From 2000 to 2007, Gert-Jan Segers worked as a Christian missionary in Egypt. A missionary is someone who travels to share their religious beliefs. After that, from 2008 to 2012, he led a research group for the Christian Union party. This group helps the party think about new ideas.
He also writes for a Dutch newspaper called Nederlands Dagblad. He has written two books that discuss political ideas. He has also written two novels, which are fictional stories.
Political Career
Gert-Jan Segers became a member of the Dutch Parliament in 2012. This happened after the national election that year. The House of Representatives is where laws are made in the Netherlands.
Leading the Christian Union
In 2015, he became the leader of the Christian Union party. He also became the leader of the party's group in parliament. He took over these roles from Arie Slob.
In the 2017 election, the Christian Union kept its five seats in parliament. After this election, the Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, needed to form a new government. He first tried to work with another party, but they could not agree on policies.
Then, Prime Minister Rutte asked the Christian Union to join the government. They agreed, and two members of the Christian Union became ministers. These were Carola Schouten and Arie Slob.
Stepping Down
On January 13, 2023, Gert-Jan Segers announced that he would step down as leader of the Christian Union. He also left his seat in parliament. On January 17, Mirjam Bikker became the new leader of the party.
Family Life
Gert-Jan Segers is married and has three children. His cousin, Theo Segers, is also involved in local politics. Theo has been a mayor in different towns in the Netherlands.
