Gervais Ndirakobuca (born in 1970) is a politician from Burundi. He is currently serving as the Prime Minister of Burundi since September 7, 2022. Before becoming Prime Minister, he was the Minister of Interior, Public Security, and Community Development.
Mr. Ndirakobuca was previously a police officer and a commander in a rebel group. He was involved in stopping large public demonstrations in Burundi in 2015. Because of concerns about how people's rights were treated during these events, some countries like the United States and the European Union placed restrictions on him. Despite these concerns, President Évariste Ndayishimiye appointed him as a security minister.

Early Life and Career
Gervais Ndirakobuca was born in 1970 in a place called Bukinanyana, located in the Cibitoke Province of Burundi.
Role in the Civil War
He was a commander during the Burundian Civil War, which was a conflict that ended in 2005. During this time, he had the nickname "Ndakugarika."
Joining the Police Force
After the civil war ended, Gervais Ndirakobuca joined the National Police of Burundi. He worked his way up and became a Commissioner, which is a high rank similar to a lieutenant-general. People often called him General.
Political Journey
As a police commissioner, Mr. Ndirakobuca was involved in managing the public protests in 2015. These protests happened after changes were made to the constitution. These changes allowed the then-President, Pierre Nkurunziza, to run for a third term in office.
International Concerns
Because of how the protests were handled, countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, and the European Union expressed concerns. They placed restrictions on Ndirakobuca, citing actions taken against protesters in April 2015. About 1,700 people died during these protests.
Becoming a Minister
Even with these international concerns, President Ndayishimiye appointed him as the Minister of Interior in June 2020. This made Ndirakobuca the most internationally restricted member of Burundi's government at the time. He was seen as a very important minister, overseeing several key areas like interior affairs, security, and community development.
Appointment as Prime Minister
Gervais Ndirakobuca became the Prime Minister of Burundi on September 7, 2022. He took over from the previous Prime Minister, Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni. His appointment happened after President Ndayishimiye mentioned that there were plans against his government. The parliament voted for Ndirakobuca to become Prime Minister, and the decision was unanimous.
