Plot
The movie is about Lexy Gold, played by Lindsay Lohan. She lives in fancy Manhattan, New York. Lexy loves to find big stories for her school newspaper's advice column. She often competes with Jack Downey (Bug Hall), who is the editor.
One day, Lexy takes a picture of her teacher, Mr. Orlando Walker (Ian Gomez). This picture and an article about him are printed in a city newspaper. Soon after, Mr. Walker goes missing! His car is found in the East River. Lexy, along with her best friend Jen (Brenda Song) and schoolmate Gabe (Ali Mukaddam), teams up with Jack to find out what happened.
Their teacher, Miss Gertrude Dawson (Amanda Plummer), gets involved because she and Mr. Walker were dating. Jack gets a strange message from Mr. Walker about a scholarship. Lexy and Jack search Mr. Walker's old apartment. There, they meet Detective Charles Meany (Charles Shaughnessy), who is also looking for Mr. Walker. Meanwhile, Jen and Gabe watch Miss Dawson using a video camera.
Lexy and Jack later visit Mr. Walker's mother, Mrs. Petrossian (Sylvia Lennick). They learn that Mr. Walker changed his name. He was once accused of stealing $10,000,000. Mr. Walker then receives a letter from the real thief, who framed him.
The group and Mr. Walker meet at a hotel. They plan to pretend to receive the stolen money. Miss Dawson shows up at the hotel and is taken hostage by the real thief. Lexy and Jack search the hotel halls. They discover the thief is Detective Meany! His real name is Falco Grandville. He was Mr. Walker's boss at a bank in Arizona. Falco was the one who framed Mr. Walker for stealing the money.
The team catches Falco, and he is arrested. It turns out Mr. Walker's mother found a special brooch at Falco's office. Falco had bought this expensive diamond brooch to hide the stolen $10 million. He then blamed Mr. Walker for its loss. After Mr. Walker is cleared of all charges, he asks Miss Dawson to marry him. The movie ends with their wedding. Jack, Lexy, Jen, and Gabe are all there. Jack and Lexy share a moment before the four friends walk off, talking about going bowling.
