Getae facts for kids
The Getae were ancient tribes who lived a long time ago in parts of what is now Bulgaria and Romania. The Greeks and Romans gave them this name. They were part of a larger group of people called the Thracians.
The Getae lived near the Danube River, especially in the lower parts of it. This river was very important for their lives and travels.
Their Language and Neighbors
The Getae spoke an ancient language called Thracian. Their neighbors, the Dacians, spoke a very similar language. This suggests they were closely related.
Sometimes, other groups of people were also called Getae. For example, some historians from the 4th to 6th centuries AD called the Goths "Getae." The Goths lived in the same area north of the Danube River much later.
