Giacomo Nizzolo (born 30 January 1989) is a famous Italian racing cyclist. He is known as a "sprinter," which means he is very fast at the end of races. He currently rides for the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team team.

Giacomo Nizzolo's Cycling Journey

Giacomo Nizzolo started his professional cycling career in 2011. He quickly became known for his powerful sprints. A sprint is when cyclists race very fast over a short distance, usually at the end of a race.

Early Career and First Wins

In August 2012, Nizzolo got his first big win in a major international race called the Eneco Tour. He started his sprint about 300 meters from the finish line. It was a very close race, but a photo finish showed that Nizzolo had won!

He achieved something special in the Giro d'Italia, one of the biggest cycling races in the world. He won the "Points classification" two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016. The Points classification is usually won by sprinters who consistently finish well in stages. What made his wins unique was that he won the points jersey without winning any individual stages in those years.

In 2018, Nizzolo competed in the Vuelta a España, another major Grand Tour race. He showed his strength by finishing in the top three on three different stages.

Changing Teams and Big Victories

In 2019, Nizzolo joined a new team, Team Dimension Data. This was his first time changing teams in his professional career. That same year, he raced in the Tour de France, which is arguably the most famous cycling race.

The year 2020 was very successful for Nizzolo. He won two important titles:

  • The Italian National Road Race Championships, making him the best road racer in Italy.
  • The UEC European Road Championships, making him the best road racer in Europe. Both wins came after exciting sprint finishes.

In 2021, Nizzolo finally achieved a long-awaited goal. After finishing second in eleven previous stages of the Giro d'Italia, he won his first ever Grand Tour stage. This happened on stage 13 of the 2021 Giro d'Italia in Verona, where he beat Edoardo Affini in a thrilling sprint.

Later, Nizzolo signed with the Israel–Premier Tech team for the 2022 season, continuing his journey in professional cycling.
