Early Life and Education
Gijs Blom grew up in Amsterdam, a big city in the Netherlands. His mother, Marloes van den Heuvel, is also an actress who performs on stage. Gijs studied theatre at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. He graduated from their Academy of Theatre and Dance in 2021.
His Acting Journey
Gijs Blom started acting when he was young. From 2007 to 2009, he performed in the musical Ciske de Rat. In 2011, he got his first role in a full-length movie called Sonny Boy. After that, he had smaller parts in TV movies like Urfeld and Eine Frau verschwindet in 2012.
A big role for Gijs was playing Sieger in the 2014 movie Jongens. This film is about growing up and finding yourself. Gijs received great reviews for his acting in Jongens. He was also nominated for a Golden Calf award for Best Actor. The Golden Calf is a very important film award in the Netherlands. In the same year, he helped make and starred in a short film called Escapade. He also appeared in other movies like Analgesics, Nena, and Pijnstillers.
In 2020, Gijs Blom starred in the World War II movie The Forgotten Battle. He played Marinus van Staveren, a soldier who felt lost. This movie was one of the most expensive Dutch films ever made. It was released internationally on Netflix in 2021, so many people around the world could watch it. Gijs also acted in the films Dead & Beautiful and The Dutch Boys. More recently, he has a role in the TV series Fallen on Globoplay.
