Gil started his football journey in 1970 with a club called Villa Nova. After that, he played for Comercial.
Joining the "Three Color Machine"
From 1974 to 1977, Gil played for Fluminense. This team was so good back then that people called them Máquina Tricolor, which means Three Color Machine. It was a very exciting time for the club and its fans.
After his time at Fluminense, Gil moved to Botafogo, which was a rival team. He stayed there until 1980. Then, he joined Corinthians. In the years that followed, Gil also played for teams outside Brazil, like Real Murcia in Spain and Farense in Portugal. He also played for Coritiba in Brazil.
