Gilberto Alves, known as Gil, is a former professional footballer from Brazil. He was born on December 24, 1950, in Nova Lima. Gil played as a forward, which means he was mainly focused on scoring goals. He is especially remembered for his time with Fluminense Football Club and the Brazilian national team.

Gil's Football Journey
Early Club Career
Gil started his football career in 1970 with a club called Villa Nova. He played there for a few years. Later, he joined Comercial in 1974.
Time at Fluminense
From 1974 to 1977, Gil played for Fluminense. This was a special time for the club. They were so good that people nicknamed them Máquina Tricolor. This means Three Color Machine, because of the team's three main colors.
Moving to New Teams
After Fluminense, Gil moved to Botafogo, which was a rival team. He stayed there until 1980. Then, he joined Corinthians. In the years that followed, Gil also played for teams outside Brazil. He played for Real Murcia in Spain and Farense in Portugal. He also played for Coritiba back in Brazil.
Playing for Brazil
Gil was a very important player for the Brazilian national team. He played 41 games for his country between April 1976 and June 1978. In these games, he scored 13 goals. Playing for your country is called earning "caps." He also played in seven matches during the 1978 World Cup.
Becoming a Manager
After his playing days, Gil became a football manager. He led several teams over the years. For example, he managed Farense in Portugal from 1983 to 1984. He also worked as an assistant manager for Botafogo in 1989. Later, he managed other Brazilian clubs like Avaí and Fortaleza in 1990. He returned to manage Botafogo again in 1991 and 1992. In 1996, he managed Alianza Lima in Peru. More recently, he managed Marília in 2008 and Portuguesa Santista in 2009.
