Gilberto Kassab (born 12 August 1960) is a Brazilian politician. He was the mayor of São Paulo until 2012. He is a civil engineer and an economist.
Kassab is known as one of the most famous Brazilians with Lebanese roots. He became mayor after José Serra decided to run for governor of São Paulo. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

Gilberto Kassab's Political Journey
Gilberto Kassab has held many important roles in Brazilian politics. He started his career in local government and moved up to state and federal positions.
- 1993–1994: He served as a Councillor for the city of São Paulo. A councillor helps make decisions for the city.
- 1995–1999: He became a State Deputy for São Paulo. A state deputy works on laws for the state.
- 1999–2004: He was a Federal Deputy. This role involves making laws for the entire country. He left this job to become vice mayor.
- 2005–2006: He served as the Vice Mayor of São Paulo. The vice mayor helps the mayor run the city.
- 2006–2013: He was the Mayor of São Paulo. He was re-elected in 2008 for another four-year term.
Making São Paulo Cleaner
As mayor, Gilberto Kassab introduced an important law called Cidade Limpa, which means "Clean City." This law aimed to reduce visual pollution in São Paulo.
What is the Cidade Limpa Law?
The Cidade Limpa law made it illegal to have most forms of outdoor advertising, like large billboards. The goal was to make the city look cleaner and less cluttered.
Public Support for the Law
Many advertising companies did not like this law. They tried to stop it in court. However, the highest court in Brazil decided the law was fair. Most people in São Paulo supported the idea of a cleaner city.

Supporting a Presidential Candidate
In July 2021, Gilberto Kassab announced his support for Rodrigo Pacheco. Pacheco was a candidate in the 2022 presidential election.
