Benigno Gilberto Penayo Ortiz (born April 3, 1933 – died October 27, 2020) was a famous football player from Paraguay. He played as a striker, which means he was a player whose main job was to score goals for his team.

Playing Career
Gilberto Penayo was born in Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay. He started playing football when he was in school. He even tried out for a big club called Club Libertad, but they didn't pick him.
But Gilberto didn't give up! He kept trying and was eventually signed by Club Sol de América. He started playing for them in 1951. He stayed with Sol de América until 1958.
Playing for Cerro Porteño
After leaving Sol de América, Gilberto Penayo joined Cerro Porteño. This was a very successful time for him. While playing for Cerro Porteño, he helped his team win two national championships. These were big titles in Paraguayan football.
In 1960, Gilberto Penayo was the top scorer in the 1st division. He scored 18 goals that season, which was more than any other player!
Final Club and Retirement
In 1964, Gilberto Penayo moved to his final club, Club Silvio Pettirossi. He played there for one year before he retired from professional football in 1965.
Playing for Paraguay
