This series became very popular in its home country, Japan. It also gained many fans in Finland and the United States.

The Story of Gin and Akakabuto

The story begins with Gin, a young Akita Inu puppy. He has cool tiger stripes on his fur. A dog trainer named Gohei Takeda, also known as "Jii-Sama," trains Gin. Gohei believes that tiger-striped Akita Inus are the best at fighting bears. He wants Gin to become a strong "bear-dog."

Akakabuto: The Giant Bear

For many years, a huge and scary bear named Akakabuto has been causing trouble. Akakabuto means "red helmet" in Japanese. This monstrous bear terrorizes Gin's hometown. Everyone is afraid of him.

Gin's Journey and Wild Dogs

Gin has a human owner, a 12-year-old boy named Daisuke. One day, while with Daisuke, Gin meets a group of wild dogs. Gin feels a strong urge to join them. He is curious about their mission. Later, Gin finds these dogs again. He learns that their goal is to fight and defeat the giant bear, Akakabuto.

Gin's Father, Riki

Gin's father is a dog named Riki. Riki is a favorite of Gohei Takeda. Sadly, Riki does not remember Gin. He lost his memory, a condition called amnesia. This happened after a fierce battle with Akakabuto.
