Girard Township is a small community located in Branch County, Michigan. It's a type of local government area called a civil township. In 2020, about 1,770 people lived here.
Even though it's a separate township, a small part of Girard Township near I-69 is now part of the nearby city of Coldwater. This area is not directly connected to the rest of Coldwater. Also, an area by Morrison Lake is considered part of Coldwater's developed area, even if it's not officially part of the city.

Understanding Girard's Geography
Most of Girard Township's land is drained by small streams that flow into Hog Creek. Hog Creek then joins the Coldwater River, which runs through the southwest part of the township. Another stream, Tekonsha Creek, drains the northeast side of the township. It flows into the St. Joseph River near the town of Tekonsha.
The United States Census Bureau tells us that the township covers a total area of about 93.7 square kilometers (or 36.2 square miles). Most of this area, about 90.8 square kilometers (35.1 square miles), is land. The remaining 2.9 square kilometers (1.1 square miles), which is about 3.05% of the total, is water.

In the year 2000, there were 1,916 people living in Girard Township. These people lived in 705 households, and 528 of these were families. The township had about 54.4 people per square mile.
Most of the people in the township were White (about 97.65%). Smaller groups included African American (0.78%), Native American (0.47%), and Asian (0.47%) residents. About 0.84% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
Out of all the households, about 27% had children under 18 living with them. Most households (64.1%) were married couples living together. About 21% of all households were made up of people living alone.
The population was spread out by age. About 19.7% were under 18 years old. About 9.7% were between 18 and 24. The largest group, 29.1%, was between 25 and 44 years old. People aged 45 to 64 made up 28.5%, and 13% were 65 years or older. The average age in the township was 40 years old.
