Gisèle Casadesus (born June 14, 1914 – died September 24, 2017) was a very famous French actress. She appeared in many plays and movies during her long career. She was an important member of the Comédie-Française, which is a famous French theater group. Gisèle Casadesus also received high honors, like the Legion of Honor. Her acting career lasted more than 80 years. She even appeared in over ten films after she turned 90 years old!

Gisèle Casadesus: Her Life and Career
Gisèle was born in Paris, France, into a family of artists. Her father, Henri Casadesus, was a musician, composer, and conductor. Her mother, Marie-Louise Beetz, played the harp. Gisèle's older brother, Christian Casadesus, was also an actor.
Early Acting Days
When Gisèle was 20, she won first prize in acting at the French National Academy of Dramatic Arts. Soon after, in 1934, she joined the Comédie-Française. This is one of the oldest and most respected theaters in the world. In the same year, she married actor Lucien Pascal. They had four children: Jean-Claude, Martine, Béatrice, and Dominique. All of their children also became artists. Gisèle became a full member of the Comédie-Française in 1939. She was made an honorary member in 1967.
Becoming a Film Star
Gisèle Casadesus started acting in movies in the 1940s. In 1943, director Pierre Billon chose her for the film Vautrin. She also played Mary in L'Homme au chapeau rond in 1946.
Later, in the 1970s, she appeared in several more films. She played Nicole Leguen, the wife of actor Jean Gabin, in Verdict (1974). She was also the mother of actress Claude Jade in Les Robots pensants (1976).
One of her most famous roles was "Mamie Rose" in the 1976 film Ma Mie Rose. She continued to act in many movies. In 1996, she worked with director Claude Lelouch in Hommes, femmes, mode d'emploi. She also played the queen mother in the comedy Palais Royal (2005). In 2010, she starred alongside Gérard Depardieu in My Afternoons with Margueritte.
Later Roles and Special Awards
Gisèle Casadesus kept acting even when she was very old. In 2013, at 99 years old, she acted in the film Sous le figuier.
She received many important awards for her long career. On March 29, 2013, she was given the Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor. This is one of France's highest awards. She also received an Honorary Molière Award in 2003. This award recognized her amazing work throughout her entire career.
Death
Gisèle Casadesus passed away in Paris, France, on September 24, 2017. She was 103 years old.
