Giuseppe Chiaravalloti was born in Satriano, a town in the province of Catanzaro, Italy. He studied Law at the University of Genoa. During his time there, he briefly shared classes with Paolo Villaggio, who later became a famous actor.
Chiaravalloti's Career as a Judge
Chiaravalloti began his career as a judge in 1959. He first worked in the court of Crotone. From 1964 to 1976, he was a main judge there. Later, he became an attorney in Catanzaro.
In 1991, Chiaravalloti was assigned to a higher legal role in Catanzaro. From 1997 to 2000, he served as the attorney general in Reggio Calabria. After his time as a political leader, he worked to protect personal information. He was a commissioner for data protection from 2005 to 2012.
Chiaravalloti's Political Journey
Giuseppe Chiaravalloti became a leading candidate for the House of Freedoms political group. He ran for the position of President of Calabria. This was during the 2000 Calabrian regional election.
He won the election and served as President for five years. This role made him the head of the regional government in Calabria.
Investigation and Clearing His Name
Giuseppe Chiaravalloti was part of an investigation called Why Not. This investigation looked into how public money was used for development in Calabria. He was questioned about how some funds were managed.
However, in 2013, the highest court in Italy, the Court of Cassation, cleared his name. They found that he had not done anything wrong.
