Giuseppe Galderisi (born 22 March 1963) is an Italian football manager and a former player. He used to play as a forward.

Playing Career

Giuseppe Galderisi played for many Italian teams. He scored nearly 200 goals in different Italian football leagues.

Early Years and Juventus

Galderisi started his professional career with Juventus. He first played for the club in August 1980. His first league game in Serie A was in November 1980.

He helped Juventus win the league title in the 1981–82 season. He even scored three goals in one game against Milan! In the 1982–83 season, he won the Coppa Italia with Juventus. He also reached the final of the 1983 European Cup final, a big European competition.

Success with Hellas Verona

In 1983, Galderisi moved to Hellas Verona. Here, he became a strong goal scorer. During the 1984–85 season, he was Verona's top scorer with 11 goals. He helped the club win their first-ever Serie A title, which was a huge achievement!

After Verona, he played for Milan and Lazio. He also had a second time playing for Verona. Later, he joined Padova in 1989. He stayed there until 1995 and had many good seasons in Serie B.

Playing in Major League Soccer

In 1996, Galderisi moved to the United States. He joined Major League Soccer (MLS) for its first season. MLS assigned famous players to each of its new teams.

New England Revolution

On February 5, 1996, Galderisi was assigned to the New England Revolution. He joined his former Padova teammate Alexi Lalas there. The team hoped he would be a key player.

He played his first game for the Revolution in April. However, he struggled to score goals for the team. After a few games, he left the club in May.

Tampa Bay Mutiny

Galderisi then signed with the Tampa Bay Mutiny during the 1996 Major League Soccer season. He had much more success with this team. He scored seven goals and made eight assists. He helped the Mutiny win the first-ever MLS Supporters' Shield. This trophy goes to the team with the best regular season record.

In the 1997 season, he continued to play well for Tampa Bay. He scored five goals and made six assists. He was even chosen for the 1997 MLS All-Star Game. He scored a goal in that game too!

Back to New England

In August 1997, Galderisi was traded back to the New England Revolution. He played seven more games for them. He also played in two playoff matches. After the season, he left the Revolution again in November.

International Career

Giuseppe Galderisi was nicknamed Nanu (meaning "short") when he played. He played ten times for the Italian national team between 1985 and 1987. He made his first international appearance in June 1985. He was also part of Italy's team for the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

Style of Play

Galderisi was a fast and agile striker. He was known for scoring many goals. He had quick reactions and worked very hard on the field. He could shoot powerfully and accurately with both feet.

Even though he was not very tall, he was good at heading the ball. He started his career as a second striker. But he became best as a centre-forward. This was because of his speed and his ability to find the goal. He was very determined and always looked for chances to score.

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Galderisi became a football manager.

Early Coaching Roles

In 1999, he started as an assistant coach for the New England Revolution. He then began his main coaching career in 2000 with Gubbio. He later coached other Italian clubs like Cremonese and Giulianova.

In 2004, he faced a health challenge but fully recovered. In 2005, he coached Viterbese. From 2006 to 2007, he coached Avellino.

Managing Different Clubs

In 2008, Galderisi took charge of Foggia. He helped the team improve a lot. In July 2008, he became the manager of Pescara. He aimed to help them get promoted to Serie B. He coached Arezzo in 2009–10 and Benevento in the next season.

In 2011, he signed with U.S. Triestina Calcio. This was a difficult time for the club due to financial problems. In 2012, he became the head coach of his hometown club, Salernitana.

In January 2014, he moved to Portugal to coach S.C. Olhanense. He left the club at the end of the season. He returned to management in November 2014 with Lucchese. He helped them avoid relegation. He returned to Lucchese again in March 2016.

In November 2018, he went back to coach Gubbio. In February 2020, he was hired by Vis Pesaro. He later coached Mantova in 2021. In April 2023, Galderisi was hired by Gelbison. He left the club after they were relegated in the playoffs.
