Società Sportiva Arezzo is an Italian football club from Arezzo, Tuscany. People also know it as Amaranto (Dark Reds) or Cavallo Rampante (Rampant Horse). The club started in 1923. It had to restart in 1993 and again in 2010 because of money problems. Today, the team plays in Serie C, which is the third-highest football league in Italy.

The Story of Arezzo Football Club

The club began on September 9, 1923. A group of friends and football fans created it. They named it Juventus Football Club Arezzo to honor the famous Juventus F.C..

In 1930, Arezzo joined with other local teams. They became Unione Sportiva Arezzo. In 1935, they joined the new Serie C division. The team faced money problems in 1953 and was moved down a league. But five years later, they returned to Serie C.

In 1961, Arezzo started playing at the Stadio Comunale. This is still their home stadium today. In 1966, Arezzo reached Serie B for the first time. This was a big achievement! To celebrate, they played a friendly match against the Brazilian team Vasco da Gama and won 2–1.

However, Arezzo went back to Serie C the next year. But they won Serie C again in 1969. They played in Serie B until 1975. In 1971, a great striker named Francesco Graziani joined the team. He quickly became a favorite player for the fans.

Arezzo got promoted to Serie B for the third time in 1982. This was under coach Antonio Valentin Angelillo. The year before, Arezzo won its first and only Italy's Serie C Cup. They beat Ternana in the final match.

In 1984, Arezzo almost made it to Serie A, Italy's top league. They were just five points away from promotion. In 1988, even with a strong team, Arezzo moved down to Serie C1.

The club had to close down in 1993 because of money issues. A group of people, including former star Ciccio Graziani, started a new club. They called it Associazione Calcio Arezzo. This new team joined Serie D.

In 1996, a new coach named Serse Cosmi joined. He didn't have much experience in higher leagues. But he quickly led Arezzo to win Serie D. This brought them back to professional football. In 1998, with Cosmi again, Arezzo won the Serie C2 promotion playoffs. This moved them up to Serie C1.

In 1999–2000, Arezzo lost in the promotion playoffs. The next year, Cosmi left for a Serie A team. Antonio Cabrini became the new coach. The team returned to Serie B in 2004.

At the end of the 2009–10 Lega Pro Prima Divisione season, the club had money problems again. They could not join the next season's tournament. A new club, Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Atletico Arezzo, started in Serie D.

In November 2010, a group of business people bought the club. This group included the famous actor Luca Zingaretti. They made many changes. They hired Maurizio Coppola as head coach and former Serie A star Abel Balbo as an assistant.

On July 1, 2012, the club changed its name to Unione Sportiva Arezzo. Balbo became the new head coach. Later, in January 2013, Mauro Ferretti bought the club.

For the 2013–14 season, Davide Mezzanotti became the new coach. Arezzo finished third that season. Later, in September 2014, Arezzo was allowed to join Lega Pro again. Under coach Ezio Capuano, the club stayed in the league safely. For the 2016–17 season, Stefano Sottili became the new coach. Many new players joined, like former Serie A player Davide Moscardelli.

Arezzo's biggest win was in the 2004–05 season. They defeated Verona with a score of 5–3.
